Will's trip to Deep Space 9

the door opens on a corridor not entirely unlike those on the Enterprise; comm panels on the walls, deckplates underfoot, airlocks opening and closing with audible hisses in the middle distance. Despite all that, things look just a little more... civilian here. Not everyone passing by is in the same uniform, or in uniform at all, for one. Far from it.

Sariel waits until the corridor's as close to clear as it's likely to get before ducking through, beckoning Will after as soon as her feet hit the station's floor. She still looks a little nervous, but there's a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth all the same. "Welcome to Deep Space 9," she says as the door closes behind them.

"Or just avoid literally running into them," is Sariel's answer. It could almost be a quip, if it hadn't been said seriously. Heck, it might still be something of a quip.

"There are viewports here," Sariel explains, drawing to a stop on the edge of that knot of people. "There's a wormhole near the station--a... passage, connecting this area of space with another much further away. When a ship comes through, the view is... amazing." As the other tourists are all focused on the view, no one notices her attempts to explain a twenty-fourth century concept to a man a thousand years and several worlds away from his time. Whew.

Something cloudy blue and swirling is beginning to color the darkness of the space outside those viewports, speaking of views.

Will watches and just stops amazed at all the space and then the wormhole,

"Its beautiful."

That cloudy blue's grown in intensity and scope within the space of seconds; it swirls, storm-dancing in the black, glowing orange at it's center until a comparative smudge of silver-grey streams through. The ship looks tiny beside the ebbing radiance, never mind the distance between itself and the promenade. It's briefly visible in greater detail as the blue brilliance dims, contracting to a point of light in two slow blinks, but then it's changed course, moved on. The docking ring is elsewhere on the station, after all.

"The Bajorans believe," Sariel says quietly, "that the wormhole is the home of their gods, the prophets. they call it the celestial temple." Pause. Long pause. "I can understand why."

"Oh aye, 'as the feel o'Sherwood, so old an true."

[visible_sariel]

Sariel's eyes are still on that pinpoint in the black, and though her smile's a small one, it's not anywhere close to wavering. "There is something... something about it, isn't there?" She doesn't say 'very right' and hell, maybe she doesn't mean 'very right'. she might, though.

"I'm glad you could see this, Will." Not I'm glad I could show you this, even though that's plenty true too, of course.

"Aye, tis somethin' true an real 'bout it."

He leans over and hugs her tightly.

She hugs him back, naturally, and that smile stays right where it is even after she lets go. She doesn't say anything for a while. when you're Sariel, you know how well a silence can work, no explanation needed.

Eventually, "We... should probably find a door, shouldn't we?"

"Guess we should, thank ye."

Silences are so wonderful and Will just keeps beaming.

Sariel won't be stopping smiling anytime soon either. She's a touch slow in answering, if only because her attention's still on the view out the observation ports. "I don't know if the door I found in that corridor will work two ways, but we could try it." Pause. "You're welcome. And thank you."

She does turn, eventually; her natural caution hasn't been entirely overridden by the moment. She does take a last not quite surreptitious look over one shoulder at the

celestial temple

pinprick in the darkness before her attention's fully on the promenade again, however.

Will's glad to take a last lingering look at the wormhole, he never imagined that such a thing could exist,

"Ne'er 'urts to try."

"No, it never does." And Sariel's heading back the way they came, aiming for the door they originally used.

He follows along with a smile, always glancing at the many people on the promenade and the view.

And view there's plenty of. Any one glance might take in three or four varied alien species; nose ridges are everywhere, though human features are plenty common too, and once in a while there's a flash of copper green amid the crowd. It's eay, in short, to lose yourself in the bustle of a place like this.

That's rather a good thing, when you're trying to get to what amounts to a dimensional portal in a side corridor and doing your best not to be noticed while you're about it. they do, eventually. Get there, that is. And fortunately for everybody who is, or could be, or really shouldn't be involved (not least of that last being Temporal Investigations!), the door opens on the bar at the first try. whew.
